Subject: AX.25 for linux?
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Greetings! I am a relatively new ham, and would like very much to be
able to run the AX.25 protocol directly on my PC, which is running Linux
instead of DOS. Are there implementations out there for use on a
Unix-like OS? Building an interface card with a different SCC is no problem.

I'd suggest the following:
1) get the info from a mods database server in your area, or
2) give Alinco a call.
Alinco _used_ to provide this info freely. One of the important changes to
the current DR-1200TH2 models is use of a wider (30 kHz?) filter in the
receiver IF. One of the weak spots in the modification is that the PLL
'corrects' for the applied FSK modulation very aggresivly, which can cause
the receiving modem difficulty when receiving a transmission from the
Alinco. Note that they are not solely guilty of this, but their's seems
worse than some other common radios, such as the IC-28. Also, the keyup
time (TXDelay) required with the Alinco is usually pretty high - 400 - 500
mSec. This is longer than a 256-byte packet.
Hope this helps a little. 73

I've just received a Baycom BayMod-9, the tiny modem built into a
9 pin connector.
I have one question that hopefully someone has already solved:
Is there a way to wire the BayMod-9 to a HT without using the PTT line?
Usually this is an option and there is a approx. 3K resistor that gets
jumpered into the audio out circuit. There were no instructions included
on how to do this, nor is it obvious from the schematic.
It would seem that use of this tiny modem with a HT would be common.
Maybe it works without any special resistor?
Thanks,
